When does political correctness become censorship? When you say what you and others feel when people dressed in Muslim garb appear on an airplane. We mentally associate 9/11 with Muslims, but why can’t we say it? All the 9/11 hijackers were Muslims, but not all Muslims are hijackers: we get it.
NPR fired one of their best people, Juan Williams, for expressing a similar opinion while appearing on The O’Reilly Factor last week. A Muslim group, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which I blogged about on Jan. 19, 2010, said they were insulted by Mr. Williams’ comments. NPR, in a fit of Islamophobia (fear of Muslims and/or what they might do to retaliate), got rid of him.
Juan Williams is a liberal who has often appeared on FOX News’ shows. I found him irritating at times, but he was always fair and thoughtful, and he was never a demagogue. I’ve enjoyed hearing Mr. Williams’ and other liberals’ views, expressed on the only conservative-leaning TV news channel you can find, anywhere. It would be quite boring to hear only conservative opinions expressed over and over, wouldn’t it?
NPR, a liberal organization, doesn’t agree…apparently. Liberals define themselves as open-minded, but many left-wingers tend to ignore, avoid, or react in anger to opinions with which they don’t agree. Just ask Joy Behar and Whoopee Goldberg. You and Juan obviously don't remember 9/11 very well, the hijackers were men who didn't look like Muslims. They just looked like any one of a number of dark-skinned stereotypes that make Conservatives shit their pants. He'll be happy at Fox where he'll be with all the other frightened pussies.
