The Obama Administration’s Secret Service Scandal AND Their Government Services Administration (GSA) Scandal

NOTE to READERS of my blog:  Google Blogs (blogspot.com) has changed its input method for bloggers and I am trying to adjust to it.  It is so different that I re-arranged and re-typed several common areas, so they may appear a little different for a few weeks and some images may be missing...  My apologies if it causes any of you any grief.  I am learning, but I'll get it 'right,' so to speak...

”We’ve put in place the toughest ethics laws and toughest transparency rules of any administration in history – in history!”  So said President Obama on Jan. 22, 2009.  He promised an end to government waste, too.  Meanwhile, he broke President George W. Bush’s record by going at least 215 days between nationally televised press conferences in 2010 (yes, 214 days is awful, too).  Mr. Obama’s health care law required ignoring Republican ideas and huge doses of back-room arm-twisting to pass.  So much for transparency.

On a trip to Columbia this month, President Obama’s agenda, entourage, secrets, and possibly his person could have been compromised by a group of foolish Secret Service agents.  They solicited local prostitutes.  What if these women of the evening gleaned some U.S. guarded information from the men sworn to protect the president?  Each person in government service is informed that this sort of behavior can compromise national security, and yet these guys still broke the rules.  President Obama said that if the agents are found guilty he “would be angry.”  Shouldn’t he be a little perturbed, if not angry, now?  So much for ethical.

The Obama Administration’s Government Services Administration (GSA) experienced a scandal recently.  They spent over $820,000 of taxpayer money on a convention for 300 government workers (over $2,700 per public employee) in Las Vegas in 2010.  The agency threw away $75,000 at this boondoggle event on training GSA members on how to build a bicycle.  Another internal program, called Top Hats, gave away about $200,000 in gifts to members of the GSA, funded by - you and me.  Employees also produced rap videos showing them goofing around, dancing, and making fun of the loose rules.  You may recall that President Obama himself scolded Americans, in early 2010, for wastefully spending money in Las Vegas.  Didn’t former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, promise to, “clean up the swamp?”  I guess it never happened.

The head of the GSA, Martha Johnson, resigned on April 2, 2012.  Read about her July, 2011 blog post on the GSA’s investments in green energy.  Ms. Johnson made several posts on the GSA’s site, including two files under the sustainability tag, which relates to Agenda 21.  It is alarming that the GSA (and therefore the Obama administration) supports this frightening movement.

President Obama criticized the GSA and called it a “mis-step.”  Jay Carney, the White House press secretary, stated the administration’s confidence that no more such examples of government waste will surface.  Yeah, right.
