The Draft International Covenant on Environment and Development (DICED) takes the principles of Agenda 21 to another level. It lifts the soft framework to a set of firm global laws, superseding the framing documents of signatory nations, including the U.S. Constitution. All development falls under appointed socialist style central planners. The U.S. Department of State and President Obama's White House Council on Strong Cities, Strong Communities (created less than two weeks ago under Executive Order on Mar. 15, 2012) find themselves members of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It's time for grave concern as the environmental extremists stride toward a one world government. When the president said he would "fundamentally transform the U.S.A." and the world, he wasn't kidding.
While stating some common sense themes and a few sensible guidelines, the authors of DICED also seek to slow our consumption, control population growth via family planning, and forcefully relocate those who over-stress their local environments. In addition, the green folks’ subjective definition of "the common interest of humanity" forces them to modify "international public policy," and they find innovative ways to do this. The present generation must be educated (brainwashed?) to ensure that they go along with a legislation of morality according to the doctrine's definition of responsibility. My otherwise wonderful father, a self-avowed Communist, preached that socialism could work in America if we simply educate the ignorant masses. It seems that his comrades never gave up.
A term used in DICED to confuse the English speaking world is res communis. It means that certain resources, although located in a certain country, do not belong to that country but to the entire world. A fervent desire "to regulate public and private activities subject to its jurisdiction or control that are potentially harmful to any part of the environment" frightens me. The concept is subject to the bureaucratic whim of nameless, appointed individuals. It also derives from the socialist principle that people are inherently untrustworthy and therefore, every aspect of their lives requires oversight and control.
While leaving all businesses 100% unregulated can attract unscrupulous polluters, I feel that regulation to this degree stifles business, competition, and causes undo havoc on the economy. We do not need to herd people and move them where the elite few choose, either. Perhaps it's time to withdraw from the U.N., withhold all funding, and boot them out of mid-town Manhattan.
