Agenda 21 (Part II) - Another Tentacle - The Draft International Covenant on Environment and Development (DICED)

Written : Mar. 24, 27, 2012

The Draft International Covenant on Environment and Development (DICED) takes the principles of Agenda 21 to another level. It lifts the soft framework to a set of firm global laws, superseding the framing documents of signatory nations, including the U.S. Constitution. All development falls under appointed socialist style central planners. The U.S. Department of State and President Obama's White House Council on Strong Cities, Strong Communities (created less than two weeks ago under Executive Order on Mar. 15, 2012) find themselves members of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It's time for grave concern as the environmental extremists stride toward a one world government. When the president said he would "fundamentally transform the U.S.A." and the world, he wasn't kidding.

While stating some common sense themes and a few sensible guidelines, the authors of DICED also seek to slow our consumption, control population growth via family planning, and forcefully relocate those who over-stress their local environments. In addition, the green folks’ subjective definition of "the common interest of humanity" forces them to modify "international public policy," and they find innovative ways to do this. The present generation must be educated (brainwashed?) to ensure that they go along with a legislation of morality according to the doctrine's definition of responsibility. My otherwise wonderful father, a self-avowed Communist, preached that socialism could work in America if we simply educate the ignorant masses. It seems that his comrades never gave up.

A term used in DICED to confuse the English speaking world is res communis. It means that certain resources, although located in a certain country, do not belong to that country but to the entire world. A fervent desire "to regulate public and private activities subject to its jurisdiction or control that are potentially harmful to any part of the environment" frightens me. The concept is subject to the bureaucratic whim of nameless, appointed individuals. It also derives from the socialist principle that people are inherently untrustworthy and therefore, every aspect of their lives requires oversight and control.

While leaving all businesses 100% unregulated can attract unscrupulous polluters, I feel that regulation to this degree stifles business, competition, and causes undo havoc on the economy. We do not need to herd people and move them where the elite few choose, either. Perhaps it's time to withdraw from the U.N., withhold all funding, and boot them out of mid-town Manhattan.

Although there’s plenty out there, feel free to read some more at: Democrats Against U.N. Agenda 21

A small collection of the terms I found on the Internet which reflect the horrors of Agenda 21:

Genetic diversity, environmental deterioration, effective governance, sustainable development, the transformation of methods of production and consumption patterns, environmental pillar, intergenerational equity, Communitarianism, eminent domain, vision 2040

Some Environmental Treaties/Meetings/Conventions:

The 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), The Stockholm Declaration on the Human Environment (1972), the World Charter for Nature (1982), the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development (1992)

Some Involved Organizations:

International Council of Local Environmental Initiatives, (ICLEI), International Council of Environmental Law (ICEL), Commission on Environmental Law, UN Commission on Human Rights

A few more items to Google:

Agenda 21, The Johannesburg Declaration and Plan of Implementation, The Earth Charter, Law of the Sea Convention

Happy reading!

Make Congress Work! – An Initiative by No Labels

Written : Mar. 20, 2012

No Labels is an organization, not a movement, which asks politicians to put aside (but not give up) their party labels in order to seek a spirit of bi-partisanship and a will to work together to solve our nation’s problems. It sounds perfect for me, but I hold a healthy skepticism for No Labels because they formed in 2010 (and not in 2005 or 2006) in response to the nation’s partisan atmosphere. The calls for President Bush’s public humiliation and hanging for war crimes didn’t motivate them to organize. The right’s resistance to President Obama’s policies did. Forgive me, but this sticks in my craw a bit. Nevertheless, I choose to keep my eyes open. One of the No Labels founders, William Galston, a former advisor to President Clinton, appeared on CSPAN on Mar. 19, 2012. On the Washington Journal program he revealed some interesting ideas, and also some weak ones.

Visit their Make Congress Work! web site and you will see their 12 methods:

1. No Budget, No Pay states that if they can’t pass a budget and all of their spending bills on time, issuance of government paychecks for the members of Congress stops. A terrific idea, but I doubt whether they’ll pass it. They didn’t ask me, but I like it and vote yes!

2. Up or Down Vote on Presidential Appointments: Here’s a knee-jerk reaction to Republicans holding up Mr. Obama’s appointments. One wonders why no one thought of this when the Democrats resisted President Bush’s every move. For that reason, no on this one.

3. Fix the Filibuster: Another way to support this president? Isn’t the entire mainstream media enough? I agree in general, but due to the bad timing, I don’t agree with it.

4. Empower the Sensible Majority: Sensible in whose eyes? Seems reasonable, but this will favor the Democrats after the 2012 election. I vote no.

5. Make Members Come to Work: What a concept! Make the House and Senate coordinate their schedules and work three 5-day work weeks a month. Awesome, they should pass this one!

6. Question Time for the President: Great idea! I agree, this would force the members to face the president and each other. Yes!

7. Fiscal Report to Congress: Hear it. Read it. Sign it. : No Labels calls for a non-partisan leader to offer a televised financial report to the nation, then leaders of both parties sign it. Yes, it’s a good idea. It can’t hurt. Do it.

8. No Pledge but the Oath of Office: This is in direct opposition to Grover Norquist’s petition when he asked leaders in Congress to sign his pledge to not raise taxes. I agree with Mr. Norquist – and the Tea Party - on this. The American people say enough with requests for more taxes, let us keep most of the money we earn. Stay out of my pockets. Number 8 is a big thumbs down with me.

9. Monthly Bipartisan Gatherings: This is like a team-building event at work. It strikes me as a little silly, but it lands on the plus side. Yes, this is fine.

10. Bipartisan Seating: Each member should sit with at least one member of another party. This is silly. Our representatives, if that’s who they really are, deserve the right to sit anywhere. Tell them the rule forcing all members to sit with members of his or her own party is over. Sit wherever you want. I say no because of the way No Labels worded it.

11. Bipartisan Leadership Committee: Another fine idea… But it supports Democrats after the 2012 election. To be fair, pass it in 2014 or 2015. Not now.

12. No Negative Campaigns Against Incumbents: Guess who this favors in the upcoming 2012 presidential election? In fairness, number twelve asks better behavior of every person running against any incumbent, including Congressmen. But, who defines the word negative? This is subjective. No way.

Not bad, my total is five in favor, seven against. I wonder what Congress will do with these proposals?

John Hofmeister on the Price of Gasoline, Oil Speculation, and U.S. Energy Policy

Written : Mar. 13, 2012

John Hofmeister, author of Why We Hate the Oil Companies, and the former president of Shell Oil (2005-2008), admitted that corporate profits are up, way up. On Washington Journal, on March 11, 2012, he informed us that world demand is also on a steep incline, and that most of that overage is re-invested into maintaining and improving oil industry technology. In addition, speculators don’t affect the price of gasoline as much as one might think. Hofmeister predicts: “If we stay on the plan we’re on – which is no plan whatsoever – we’ll be at $5.00 [prices] next summer, or $5.50 the following summer.” He warned us of the need to get our hands on the politicians who will not deal with our future energy needs. It’s just unconscionable [that some Americans are paying over $5 or more a gallon] when we live in such abundance that we’re not allowed to touch.”

These sound like the claims of an alarmist, until one realizes that Hofmeister, in 2010, foretold the price would reach $5 by 2012, either in quarter two (Q2) or (Q3). “And yet, here we are – arguing about whether or we should or should not drill in our own country…we’re not going to have enough oil to fill our tanks every day.” Agreeing with those who claim that the world’s need for oil is driving the price up, he said that demand for oil in developing countries is growing by double-digit percentages each year. ”While [China’s demand for oil] has gone from 5 to 9 million barrels a day and on its way to 15, the U.S. has gone from 20 to 18… India has gone from 4 to 7 (by 2015)”.

”The sooner we get a plan for energy, the better off every American will be.” Hofmeister said, “We need to have a long-term, comprehensive plan” for current sources using a 0-10, a 10-25, and a 25-50 year plan. “Let’s transition intelligently with the technologies we know.” Fossil fuel, coal, oil, and natural gas are the ones we know best. “And we can’t just write that off, but some people want to.” The former president of Shell said we need around 20 million barrels a day more than we produce now. He said that we can’t drill our way out of the problem, but drilling should bring us to about the 10 million barrel mark. Then we can improve our efficiency by producing ethanol and methanol, hydrogen fuel cells, and natural gas. Next we could do deals with Canada and Mexico to lift us up, over the top.

This registered Democrat blames both political parties for the lack of progress in this area over the years, but he said, “[President Obama] and his administration have done more harm to the future of domestic natural resource production than any administration since Nixon.” When Mr. Obama says we have only 2% of the world’s oil, he conveniently uses the term “proven reserves.” He is ignoring the other two - “possible reserves” and “probable reserves.” John Hofmeister said that the oil companies know that the U.S. has more oil than Saudi Arabia. Put that in your gas tank and fire it up!

Emily’s List President Stephanie Schriock - An Honest Portrayal of the Liberal Agenda

Written : Mar. 06, 2012

At least the president of Emily’s List, Stephanie Schriock, is up front about her group’s goals. As their website says, they aim to elect “pro-choice Democratic women to office.” Conservative women, stay home and remain in the kitchen - only female liberals need apply. I wish I could find such honesty in the feminist movement, where they pretend to support all women, but only stand up for ladies on the left. I support their right to exist and to push their agenda, but I disagree with most of their ideas. Yet, I find Ms. Schriock’s appearance on CSPAN fascinating - and unusual. What a candid look at partisan views about women and the media!

Their president states that her clan strives for women voters to stand up and vote against the “outrageous Republicans.” She repeats that women make up only 17% of the U.S. Congress, and Ms. Schriock says yes, she wants to see more conservative women, too, but she prefers that pro-choice Republican women run for office. Ms. Schriock relates this statement to our media’s misguided mantra by telling us that conservatives are so far to the right that they find themselves outside of the main stream. Of the right’s latest objection to President Obama’s health care mandate that Christian organizations provide contraception against their beliefs, Ms. Schriock reminisces about similar discussions in America held during the 1930’s and 1950’s. She thinks that there should be no more discourse about religious freedom, because, as she recalls, Americans discussed this topic two or three generations ago. We are so done with an open debate! How refreshing, but disappointing at the same time.

Sandra Fluke, a law school student, recently testified before Congress. She complained about the cost of contraceptives while supporting Mr. Obama’s wishes for health care. When the host of Washington Journal raises the issue of Rush Limbaugh’s recent and unfortunate comments about Ms. Fluke, Stephanie Schriock reiterates that Rush should be taken off the air. This is because, according to our expert, this kind of talk is disgusting and inappropriate. On the other hand, she avoids commenting on commentator Chris Matthews’ and comedian Bill Maher’s nasty and demeaning comments about Sarah Palin. She says nothing about Ed Schultz’s malicious rant against conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham or Keith Olbermann’s insult of Michelle Malkin. Schriock speaks out against the noxious comments by the left-leaning commentators. However, we must censor only Limbaugh’s voice, according to the president of Emily’s List.

We never hope to silence liberals’ expression of thought. However, when their speech strikes us as unfair, we conservatives must object. Stephanie Schriock’s desire to censor Rush Limbaugh strikes me as unfortunate and unreasonable. I oppose and challenge its logic.
