A Simple Economic Argument – Lowering Taxes Increases Government Revenue

My financially unsuccessful, left-wing radical father once recommended the book, How to Make Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie. I once read, Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. Both men suggested that only a small percentage of people will succeed in becoming financially independent, or wealthy. The reason, I believe, is risk-taking. Neither my father nor I took many substantial risks with our money and neither of us became rich. That’s just the way it is. Even Melissa Harris-Perry, a liberal MSNBC host, recently admitted that more money in lower-income people’s hands means they will spend more. She unwittingly agreed with conservatives that when that happens, the economy grows. Poor people stay poor not because they are oppressed by the rich businessman, but because they don’t save their extra money, most don’t have a plan for success, they don’t become rich, they spend it all. Why can’t they accept it?

When you speak to some liberals they say that trickle-down economics never worked. They’ll tell you that they don’t want to return to the policies of Reagan and Bush, so they’re voting for President Obama. But, what are they trying to tell us? They mean that those policies didn’t make them any richer. They miss the point. No president’s agenda will accomplish that goal. They need to make it happen, themselves. If the president took all the money the wealthy have and gave it all to the poor, they’d stay poor.

The left also misunderstands the ‘widen the base’ argument on taxes. They should think a little bit deeper. For example, it’s easy to think that if you raise taxes, income to the government increases. The converse principle seems just as likely. If you lower taxes, revenue to the government - you would think - should decrease. In reality, though, it doesn’t work that way. Raising taxes places a burden on businesses, and they react by not hiring – or by firing workers. Dropping tax rates help businesses to decide to hire because they become less stressed. If tens or even hundreds of thousands of people start paying taxes, the government takes in more money. This concept is not difficult, and it’s only a tad harder to understand than the ‘up is higher, down is lower’ idea. However, for some reason, many people can’t, or refuse to see it. Perhaps we need to explain conservative principles to them from time to time…

CPAC 2012 - in Denver, Colorado on Oct. 4, 2012 - Mitt Romney's Surprise Appearance!

This summer I realized I wanted to attend the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) for 2013, to be held in Washington, D.C., in March. So, I checked out the web and discovered a local version of CPAC, to be held in Denver on October 4, 2012! I signed up. After all, I have a completed manuscript to publish.

I breezed through the sign-in process and noticed the schedule of top-notch speakers to appear later in the morning. I recognized most of the names. My admission gained me access to the main section, and because I arrived so early I figured I’d sit in the nearly empty front row. Immersed in enjoyable conversation with a fellow conservative, the time for speakers arrived before I realized it. After some formalities and a brief introduction, Al Cardenas, Chairman of the American Conservative Union, appeared and gave a fine speech.

Sen. John Thune (SD) followed Cardenas, then Sen. Orrin Hatch (UT), and Rep. Jason Chaffetz (UT) gave short speeches. How nice to see these prominent conservative leaders, right in front of me. Sen. Marco Rubio burst out onto the stage with youthful vigor and enthusiasm. No worries, my liberal friends, not a mean word did we hear. No name calling, just positive ideas and encouragement. The camera well in front of us filled up with photographers. Sen. Rubio is quite popular, I thought. A friend then suggested that our candidate would be next. But, wait, he’s not on the program…

Someone introduced Mitt Romney’s four sons. Hmmm, that’s odd. And then one of them began speaking about the knock-out his father delivered the night before - in the first presidential debate of 2012. He said, “There are five brothers, but one of them couldn’t make it here. So, we thought we’d bring this guy along instead.” Yes, Governor Romney himself made his way out onto the stage! The crowd went wild… and, there he was, right in front of me, closer than fifteen feet. Similar to his debate performance, this presidential man made his case once again. We need to elect him.

After the Mitt Romney appearance, I listened to some more speakers, heard a panel or two, and then made my way out to the rest of the conference. What a wonderful thing, to be amongst like-minded people. I had the honor of meeting many people, some famous, some not so much, and spoke to a few about my memoir. The friendships I made there can last a lifetime. And, maybe, just maybe my manuscript will finally get published…

In the coming weeks I may write more about this CPAC; I have videos to post. In the meantime, we have a Vice-Presidential debate to watch. No predictions, but I’m hopeful that Rep. Ryan will win by side-stepping Vice President Biden’s attacks and by presenting the prosperous Romney vision for America. Every time our candidates get the chance to offer our concepts without the negative filter of the Mainstream Media, we gain ground. When the spin, sarcasm, and mocking are shut down, people understand conservative principles, take them seriously, and generally agree with them.

The Mainstream Media is Out to Defeat Mitt Romney, and What Romney Must do to Win the First Presidential Debate of 2012

When Mitt Romney put out his 59 point plan for America, the left said there were too many points. Now he has a 5 point plan and they say he’s not specific enough. As we know, the Mainstream Media (MSM) is teaming up with the left to support our president. On This Week, Face the Nation, and on Meet the Press on Sep. 23, 2012, the hosts, David Gregory, Bob Schieffer, and George Stephanopoulos, continually pushed liberal talking points. Instead of covering the Arab Winter and President Obama’s mishandling of it, they spoke instead of Romney’s as a failing campaign as if rooting against it… Stephanopoulos gave away the MSM’s strategy by warning us all, “Voters are going to be hearing about that leaked video (Romney’s ‘47%’ comment) every single day.” The MSM wants us to believe that all the skewed polls, which contain a vast over-sampling of Democrats - and assume the 2008 turnout for 2012, reveal that the president is way ahead. Quoting Peggy Noonan of all people, they said that the Romney campaign is a ‘rolling calamity.’ “Can he [Romney] turn it around?” Gregory asked. Chuck Todd, of MSNBC, analyzed that if you give the president just one toss-up state, he wins. Great. I hope all that false optimism keeps the Democrats home on election night!

Ever notice how the media never concentrates on the Democrats’ goofs? You know, during the 2008 campaign, then candidate Obama said he thought he still needed to visit the rest of the 57 states… He also said, “So it's not surprising then that they [people who live in small towns] get bitter, they cling to their guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or ... uh, anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” How many times have we heard that ignorant statement in the MSM over the last 4 years? Not much. Which reporter has ever called him out on it? Not one of them.

On Meet the Press on Sep. 23, 2012, David Gregory continued his assault on the former Massachusetts governor by concentrating on his tax returns and income. Don’t we have to ask, “Why is that so important?” Gov. Romney, while being filmed at a fund-raiser by a Democratic plant, said that 47% of the population won’t vote for him. Gregory took this 47% comment, highlighted it, took out of context by saying he meant that he didn’t care about those folks, and then swung it to Gov. Duvall Patrick (D-MA) who spoke for President Obama on the subject. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), whose name Gregory had trouble pronouncing for some reason, spoke positively about Mr. Romney and his policies. Gregory challenged Ayotte to come up with some positive points - and she did, but they were predictably ignored by the show’s host.

Gregory, under the headline, “The Debate over the 47%, The Role of Government,” talked Romney down non-stop, never let up on the left-wing belief that Romney’s comment put people down. The debate should be about the issues, not Mitt Romney’s taxes, and not an in-artfully crafted comment by the Republican nominee. Hopefully, Mr. Gregory will get many chances to pronounce Sen. Ayotte’s name correctly in the near future.

So, what will Mitt Romney need to do in tomorrow’s debate? He must be gentle while refuting the silly points the president will offer, such as ‘this is a return to the Bush policies’ and ‘trickle down doesn’t work.” These statements mean that conservative policies didn’t make the lefties rich. They’re right, they won’t. But these policies do create jobs, unlike the foolish, wasteful, and destructive stimulus spending programs. Mr. Romney must point out that if you create 4.5 million jobs, as President Obama claims, but lose 8.5 million, that’s a net loss of 4 million jobs. Yeah, we know we need teachers and construction workers, Mr. President, but hiring them by the tens of thousands today won’t pull us out of a bad economy. Duh.

The governor needs to show that Obamacare, created in a smoky back room - without any Republican input, is a failure, just like the president’s lack of leadership. Mr. Obama failed to lead the Congress by forging working relationships, as Presidents Reagan did with Tip O’Neill and President Clinton did with Newt Gingrich. Partisanship happens only when the U.S. president can’t or won’t gain a compromise. President Obama shouldn’t blame it on the Republicans, and shame on him for doing so. Romney must emphasize that the current president’s lack of leadership in the Middle East (soft policy with Libya and Egypt on one hand, and spiking the football over the killing of Bin Laden at the Democrats’ convention on the other) caused the recent chaos there. And Romney must show that this has been the worst recovery since the 1930’s, and give specifics on how he and Paul Ryan will bring it back. There will be a better tax climate for business and investors, and more jobs. Yes, we did build it.

Mitt Romney must win the first debate, hands down. He must then win the others, and then the presidency. If we elect him, America will recover quickly. If we do not, the country will spiral out of control, downward. Without a strong foreign policy the world will become more dangerous and unfriendly to America. Without a clear energy policy and a plan for drilling, oil and other energy prices will continue to increase, as the current president has said he wants. The Tea Party will, by 2016, either way, become the major political force in America and if Romney loses now, it will, with the work of countless patriots, take a devastated U.S. along with its demoralized population and failed economy back from the social justice folks in four years. If Romney wins, the Tea Party will be his greatest asset and strongest ally, and it will feel once again like the America we once knew.

The Upcoming Debates – What Romney Must do to Win

A boss of mine once said, “If you want the manager’s job, you must act like a manager.” In the three upcoming presidential debates, the first on Wednesday, Oct. 3, Gov. Romney must seem like our president. I suggest he avoid too much criticism of President Obama, and surprise us all with details. Tell them your plan, Mitt.

The mainstream media (MSM) will come prepared to trip the Republican candidate, so Governor Romney will need to turn their loaded, biased questions into clear answers. Don’t let them distract you, Mitt, as they will try. Stay on target and tell the American people what you came prepared to say. They will try to make President Obama look like a champion of the people instead of the commander-in-chief of so many failed policies. They will attempt to make you look like a fool, a rich guy, one who doesn’t care. We need to see how much you do.

A few of my readers might not understand how the questions will be biased, so let me give one example. The chances are high the talking heads might ask something like, “Governor Romney, when you said you didn’t care about 47% of the people in that video…” - He didn’t say he didn’t care about anyone, he said they wouldn’t vote for him. And, they won’t concentrate on any of President Obama’s gaffs, believe me. Not all, but several will be softball questions to the president, watch and see. “What do you like best about being president?” is but one example.

As a presidential hopeful, Mr. Romney needs to tell us about his vision for a stronger America in a safer world, his better economy via job creation at an accelerated pace, better schools, better teachers, his ideas for a re-invigorated and active space program, (how’s that for education, my liberal friends?) – and specifically, how to get there from here. We have to see him answer the president’s talking points, you know, “trickle-down doesn’t work…a return to the Bush policies…pay your fair share…spread the wealth…Republicans do teacher-bashing…more people covered than ever before…the Republicans opposed me at every turn…tsunamis, ATMs…I can’t change Washington from the inside…Republicans favor dirty air and dirty water…” He must challenge the president at least three times, ask questions of him, point out his failings in front of him; policies, ideas, over-spending, and ideology. Mr. Romney must seem like the adult while not scolding the child.

Yes, the specifics are all there, Democrats - policies, issues, details, on his web site here or here, pay attention, please. Tell us you don’t like the ideas, but do stop saying that there are no ideas. Oh, and by the way, if you own a business, you did build that!

The Rich and the Jealous – or – You, Too, Might Succeed - and Then What?

When the Democrats say, “Pay your fair share,” what are they really saying? The term ‘fair share’ is never defined by anyone, but the extrapolation is that some pay their fair share and others do not. Which others? They say the 99% of Americans who are rich don’t pay enough, and the assumption is that they can afford to pay more. However, nearly half of all Americans don’t pay any taxes. The top 10% pay over 70% of all taxes. The bottom 50% pays just over 2% of all tax revenues – as of 2009. This is down from 4% in 1999, by the way. Is that fair?

How does anyone know that the rich can afford to pay more? From our president on down, no one knows for sure, they simply assume, and you know what they say about the word, ‘assume,’ right? If the finger-pointing individuals were rich, they tell us, they wouldn’t use any tax loopholes. They’d do the patriotic thing and pay even more than they needed to. Yeah, sure. When you make more money than you can spend it’s obvious that you invest it through an investment company. They tell you how to do it, and you do what they say to maximize the interest you can make on your money. Why not? Think it all the way through, Democrats. What if you succeeded beyond your wildest dreams?

In 2004, Democrats didn’t target one of the richest men ever to run for president, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA). They left him alone for political reasons, of course. But they sure do pick on wealthy old Mitt Romney, don’t they? Since his father was rich, they assume he inherited his fortune, but he didn’t. He gave his inheritance away and built his own net worth over time. And yet the jealous and bitter ooze out of the woodwork and accuse the governor of investing his money in a place where he can escape our over-zealous tax system. When it was revealed that Sen. John Kerry anchored his yacht in a different state to avoid paying nearly $500,000 in taxes, the frowning faces went into hiding. I refer you to Larry Elder’s article about Democrats who support higher taxes but don’t follow their own advice.

So, if nearly half the people – at the lower end of the income scale - don’t pay taxes, and Mitt Romney says so, why does the media attack him for it? If he says these people will probably not support him, why do President Obama’s supporters mock him for telling the truth? When he says he “won’t worry about those people,” he doesn’t mean he won’t be their president, he merely is saying that they won’t vote for him so he shouldn’t try to convince them, that’s all. Relax, liberal folks, he’ll be your president, too, and will work to lighten the load on business so they will hire you.

Straw Men II

A straw man is a stereotype, a cliché, an imaginary figure, set up for one side to argue against the other. The straw men arrived – just in time - to the Democratic National Convention last week in Charlotte, NC. As predicted, the Democrats set up the rich man straw man, just to knock him down. Their best speaker, former President Bill Clinton, said that the Republicans hate President Obama. No, we don’t. We dislike his policies. (How many times must we say it?)

Elizabeth Warren, running for the Senate in Massachusetts, in a fit of cynicism told her audience of Democratic delegates that the system is rigged against them. Although 50% of lower-income citizens don’t pay taxes, she implied that Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee, avoids paying his fair share of taxes (whatever that is) by sheltering his income in the Cayman Islands. But rich, famous Democrats do the same thing. Even you would do it if you could. It‘s legal, but sounds like a call for equality to knock a guy who does it, and unfairly label him. The media avoided telling you that billionaire rich guy, John Kerry, who ran for the Democrats at the top of their ticket in 2004, anchored his yachts in another state to avoid paying taxes. It’s okay to shelter income, but only if you are a Democrat and speak about some lemon-laced, vague, and impossible form of fairness.

Candidate Warren also said that Republicans say they don’t believe in government (although we do). Then she knocked the straw man down. “Sure they do,” she continued, “they believe in government to help themselves – and their powerful friends.” However, this reflects what the Democrats believe. Look at how environmental companies received millions of dollars in stimulus funds. See how much money America lost by ‘investing’ in Solyndra. Yes, over half a billion dollars! This company represents the president’s powerful friends.

John Lewis, the influential civil rights leader, perpetuated this myth: The Democrats want to move us forward while the Republicans only want to go back. Then he set up the old voting straw man. He implied that Republicans suppress the vote. Meanwhile, the mainstream media refused to cover the story (and legal case) about voter intimidation perpetuated by the Black Panthers (with a billy club), shouting racial slurs against whites in Philadelphia during the 2008 election. Guess who they were supporting in the 2008 election, and I can give you a hint; not Republican John McCain.

I did not mention all the straw men who came to Charlotte for the Democratic Convention, but the Democrats did not disappoint, they knocked all of them down.

Another straw man the left uses is that they are the party of tolerance while the Republicans exclude people. Please see the short video from the Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show. Here Come the Straw Men

A straw man is a false set of circumstances set up for one side to argue against the other. The straw men are coming. The left loves to use these, their imaginary friends, against the right. One such straw man is the evil, rich, oil tycoon, laughing while secretly salting his money in his wall safe. Consider their make-believe, conservative racist - is there any other kind? Another, the rich Republican businessman, only cares about money. He'll purposely hurt the working poor as much as he can – and reap the company profits while exploiting their labor. These people don’t really exist (If so, who are they?), and yet the Democrats are already railing against them.

The 2012 Republican National Convention (RNC) was held in Tampa, FL last week. The Democratic National Convention (DNC) just began in Charlotte, NC. So get ready; the silly season descends upon us. One liberal argument you may not have heard yet is that the Republican convention contained coded, racial messages to rev up their Klu Klux Klan membership. On Sep. 1, 2012, ‘Political Analyst’ Jonathan Alter, on MSNBC’s Weekends with Alex Witt, explained this phenomenon by likening it to the 1960’s-1980’s. When President Nixon said, “Law and Order,” explains Alter, the statement was actually code for stirring up the president’s white constituency against minorities (like whites don’t commit crimes!). Mr. Alter also said that President Ronald Reagan, when speaking about ‘welfare queens,’ meant the phrase as a subconscious message of racism to his white base. (And yet, conservatives don’t classify groups the way liberals do, and most of those who receive welfare in this country are whites!)

The left says they couldn’t see any blacks and Hispanics in the RNC. But, which channel were they watching? Talk about putting the blinders on a horse! I saw them all on CSPAN. The other networks refused to show most of them and didn’t air their stirring personal stories given in stirring, wonderful speeches. I wonder why? For those on the left who saw them, the response generally was, ‘Well, these people do not represent their own minorities.’ So, the Republicans can never win in liberal eyes. BTW, my left-wing friends, we don’t see them as minorities – only you do; we see them as freedom loving Americans who understand this country’s greatness. It’s a drag being called a racist when you’re not. Drop the psycho-babble, and get with reality, Democrats.

President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney – Are there Any Differences? Part II

We on the right are used to the mainstream media’s left-wing bias. This continued - business as usual, as CBS/NBC reporter Marvin Kalb appeared on Washington Journal on Aug. 5, 2012. Claiming there is no difference between Mitt Romney and President Obama (on foreign policy I assume), Kalb took the liberal position that the war in Iraq should never have happened. According to the left (as I see it) the U.S. has no foreign interests and should not interfere with global dictators’ attempts to oppress millions of people. Trying to follow the fit of twisted logic, I guess we must stay out of the way of despots because they only threaten us when it’s too late – and it’s not too late now!

A caller asked whether or not it’s moral that the U.S. keep over 800 military bases in over 100 countries and suggested that we are pushing our way of life and democratic principles (God forbid!) on those countries. Mr. Kalb surprisingly took exception to the caller’s assumptions and claimed that instead of occupying, we are defending America, and not trying to spread democracy all over the world. Our objective reporter suggested that the U.S. today is not beholden to the military industrial complex (this somehow proves the current president’s toughness). Kalb’s statement is a flip-flop position, as the left claimed that President Bush (and Vice President Cheney) cow towed to the armed services and acted as their proxy for eight years. To be fair, Marvin Kalb did say he thought that Mitt Romney would govern as a centrist president as opposed to a hawk. When a caller suggested she wouldn’t listen to a thing Romney said because he wouldn’t release his tax returns prior to 2011, interestingly, no one on the program (not even fair-minded Mr. Kalb) raised the point that we’re still waiting for President Obama’s college transcripts (and applications) to be released. He withholds them still.

While campaigning in 2008, according to Kalb, President Obama said that Afghanistan was a war we must win – and - after one short year the president flipped and searched for an exit strategy… Mr. Kalb didn’t say the president lied to get elected, he said his position on Afghanistan changed over time (evolved?). I wonder if Marvin Kalb will be as warm and kind to a Republican president. Fortunately, we may know for sure in just a few short months. In past years when media types made biased statements, we conservatives either ignored them or rolled over and accepted their rhetoric. But, this time, we’ll be watching and listening for consistency and objectivity. I’ll bet we won’t find any, but, who knows? At least the right keeps an open mind. President Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney – Are there Any Differences? (Part I)

Despite liberal claims that the mainstream media is biased toward the right, the facts do not support them. In fact, of the media people polled, 81% voted for Carter over Ford in 1976, 58% voted for Mondale over Reagan in ’80. In 1988, correspondents supported Dukakis over George H.W. Bush by a ratio of 12-1 (according to conservapedia.com). US News reported in 2011 that in Tim Groseclose’s book, Left Turn, he asserted that the tilt reached a whopping 93 to 7 percent, in favor of the left. Brent Bozell’s Media Research Center is dedicated to gathering and maintaining statistics such as these because the MSM itself thinks it is neutral, which it is not. Newsweek covers usually belittle the Republican candidate. I cite one for George H.W. Bush’s campaign in 1988 entitled, “Fighting the Wimp Factor,” and another for Mitt Romney’s 2012 push for the highest office in the land, “The Wimp Factor: Is he just too Insecure to be President?” Meanwhile their covers idolize Democrats, for example, they give President Obama a halo and use titles such as, “America’s First Gay President” or claim he is “God of All Things,” or ask, “Why Are Obama’s Critics so dumb?”

Long time reporter, Marvin Kalb, made an appearance on Washington Journal on August 5, 2012. Mr. Kalb now works on foreign policy at the Brookings Institute, a think tank which considers itself non-partisan, but it once organized the now far-left United Nations. To be fair, it now works on deregulation and tax reform. Keeping in mind that Kalb is deep into U.S. foreign affairs, he said that there wasn’t much difference between President Obama and Mitt Romney. This is false if one considers the economy, where there is an ocean between the two. In the foreign policy arena I also think this a falsehood.

Marvin Kalb demonstrated liberal thinking when he said that there is no longer a threat from the Soviet Union, and therefore suggested the president’s policy for scuttling our military is a good idea. However, Kalb also pointed out that the new areas of concern come from global terrorism. With regard to foreign policy, it is my opinion that President Obama believes America is an ordinary country and it should have little influence around the world. He equates the Arab struggle for creating a Palestinian state with Israeli independence from bully nations. He believes Russia is our pal and tends to play nice with rogue dictators and arrogant nations. If we simply dissolve into a country like Sweden, Mr. Obama thinks that adversarial countries would change their minds, and like the U.S.A. This foreign policy idea is flawed, and doesn’t keep us safe. It projects weakness and invites attack. Some people dislike America not for what we are, but out of their own false stereotype – which they hold high - against us.

At the same time, I think that Mitt Romney believes we are an exceptional country and he will stand with our allies and against our foes (as John F. Kennedy once believed and said). He will not apologize for America as the current president did in Cairo – and elsewhere. He will support our ally, Israel, and will not snub its’ Prime Minister – as President Obama did at least twice. Mitt Romney will talk the talk and walk the walk when it comes to defending America. We want our presidents to stand tall for us, Mr. Obama - as many past presidents have – remember? We need our president to talk tough, too. Hey, that does not mean he will necessarily act tough, it simply means he needs to project strength and American pride to other nations. Liberals say President Obama is tough because he got Osama Bin Laden! But he didn’t do it alone! He didn’t do that! President Bush built the national security infrastructure which allowed President Obama to get Bin Laden!

President Obama’s Smashed Hopes, Broken Dreams, and Broken Promises (Part I)

Candidate Obama said that he wouldn’t add a dime to the federal deficit (he assured us he would cut it in half). Yet, he added more to it in 4 years as President Bush did in 8. He promised that his administration would be the most transparent in history – and then hid hundreds of pages of documents from Congress, all detailing the Mexican gun operation entitled, “Fast and Furious.” After assuring he’d televise the entire health care debate so the American public could understand the issues, one found almost none of it on TV, the Democrats blocked the Republicans from the debate, created the bill by themselves, and said they had to pass it so the rest of us could see what was in it!

After convincing us of his administration’s honesty and fairness, his bill’s passage was tied to back room deals and old-fashioned arm-twisting, reminiscent of the smoked-filled rooms the Democrats used to participate in but complain about. Mr. Obama told us that the health care penalty for those who didn’t buy a policy was absolutely not a tax, but the Supreme Court decided that the only way the entire health care bill could be upheld as constitutional was by calling it a tax. Jack Rafferty, of CNN (part of the mainstream media’s rooting-for-the-president crowd), said of the unaffordable health care bill, “It was all just another lie that was told in order to get elected.”

President Obama said that if he didn’t fix the economy his presidency would be a one-term proposition. He didn’t improve it, but stubbornly runs his campaign for a second term anyway. He has the nerve to whine about his opponent, Mitt Romney’s outsourcing of jobs, while this president booted a good deal of the space program over to Eastern Europe. (His rationale must be that it doesn’t directly help the middle class and the poor.) Sadly, the Russians now launch our astronauts into space, and NASA does not. This president’s also okay with outsourcing our oil drilling to Brazil, and promised the Brazilians that America would be their best customer!

President Obama, after promising hope and change, now blames hurricanes, tsunamis, the Arab spring, and, of course, President Bush for his failures. Looks like it didn’t turn out the way this inexperienced, not-even-one-term Senator and former community organizer planned. He rolled his dice and failed. Aside from creating an enormous federal bureaucracy, doubling the national debt, knocking business people, creating a poor environment for businesses to flourish by increasing taxes and regulations, and pushing socialist policies such as government dependency, his supporters claim President Obama did a lot for us! I wonder what that is? Let’s replace him in November with an experienced person, Governor Mitt Romney, who works well with others, and knows a thing or two about running large operations, and creating jobs.

The Upcoming 2012 Election and Governor Mitt Romney’s Best Speech

Upon winning the Maryland, Wisconsin, and Washington D.C. primaries last week, Governor Mitt Romney gave a wonderful speech about “restoring the promise of America.” He reminded the crowd to check out the gas price per gallon as they “drive home tonight… Just take a look at the prices and then ask yourself, ‘Four more years of that?’” Yes, independent thinkers, we conservatives and Mitt Romney all realize that the president does not control the price of gasoline. However, his policies can influence it.

Today, Tuesday, Apr. 10, 2012, Sen. Rick Santorum dropped out of the race. Meanwhile, on FOX News Sunday a mere two days ago, Newt Gingrich said he would not end his bid for the presidency. He implied that Gov. Romney will win the nomination. So, what’s going on here? Gingrich said he wants to stay in to influence the party platform. His staying in also helps Romney because he will pull votes from Ron Paul, and I agree with every facet of this strategy.

Back to the Romney speech, the governor made the point that the current president spent the last four years trying to transform America into a centralized state. He also told the crowd, to cheering, that he “will spend the next four years rebuilding the foundation of an opportunity society, led by free people and free enterprises.” Governor Romney pointed out that President Obama, who despises profits, doesn’t grasp that a plant closes when a business loses money, when it is not profitable. Instead, the former community organizer turns to government to lift people up, and sees business as the bad guy. Mr. Obama’s vilification of success and his chastising of business in general hurts the communities he tries to help. This government-centered society then must increase unemployment insurance and spending because more people will lose jobs under his policies, and “there’s always someone who’s entitled to something more.” This leads to high unemployment, stagnant wages and crushing debt. “It’s beginning to sound familiar, isn’t it?”

”I don’t want to transform America,” he repeated. “I want to restore to America the economic values of freedom and opportunity and limited government that have made us the powerhouse of the world. It’s opportunity, not a check from government, it’s opportunity that has always driven America and defined us as Americans. …Free enterprise has done more to lift people out of poverty…and to make our lives better than all the programs of government – combined… Government has to become the ally of business, not the opposition of business…” Wonderful words for a weakened, dependent, and success-starved country, thank you, sir.

Gov. Romney said that the economy is the product of all the businesses in it, but this president does everything he can to demonize business. “It’s a bit like saying you like an omelet, but you don’t like eggs.” No doubt, that night we heard Mitt Romney’s best speech yet. Let’s wish him success in the upcoming election!

The Remaining 2012 Republican Candidates Competing for the Nomination

Our number one goal remains the defeat of President Obama’s radical, transformative agenda in the presidential election this fall. Conservatives must support our nominee… After vigorous and negative campaigning, all of our candidates must show us the way - and rally behind the top dog. My purpose is not to back one of the remaining five and trash the others, but I admit I have some problems at this stage, seeing Rick Perry and Ron Paul as winners in this horse race. Can they win? Anything is possible, but could either beat Barack Obama, the wealthy, but radical champion of the downtrodden? Perhaps... For all the libertarians reading this, I agree with most of your principles, and I love your movement. However, I believe the leader of the cause - the spearhead of the Tea Party - should not be Dr. Paul. However, rest assured, someone will emerge in time…

Of the probable nominees, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum, I am drawn to Newt, the smartest guy in the room, but his negatives pull him down too much. As Bill Kristol said this morning on CSPAN’s Washington Journal, the former speaker probably can’t overcome a 30-point un-favorability rating. Santorum seems more and more presidential each time I see him, but I believe his strong social conservative message – which I generally agree with – is too strong for the general public. I see Romney as a weaker conservative than the other two, yet, stronger against President Obama because I think he can win the independents. Someday we need to nominate a strong but nimble conservative, someone like Ronald Reagan, but it appears that this is not the time. The candidates are smashing each other and giving the incumbent some ammunition to use later this year. I hope they know what they’re doing. If our nominee can overcome the negativity with the blooming of the flowers in spring and/or summer, we’ll win in the fall.

When one of the remaining five receives the nomination, we need to support him, and I promise I will. Ron Paul, if he loses, MUST NOT RUN as a third-party candidate! If he does, President Obama will grab a second term, and we can kiss the America we once knew - goodbye.
